Hello friends! It has been a busy but exciting few months as I said goodbye to Argentina (not without learning how to make empanadas first!), visited home, and moved to Italy for my second placement. But throughout it all, God has been so good.
I am now over halfway through my time here in Mendoza! The past few months have been a humbling learning curve as I have adjusted to the culture and language here in Argentina. Hurdles such as the language barrier, loneliness, and self-doubt have struck me down at times but through these periods, God has taught me to trust in him even more and look to him as my strength and joy. I have found Psalm 30 a real encouragement while being here, especially verses 4 and 5: ‘Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people; praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment but his favour lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.’ As I choose to let go of my bitterness towards momentary challenges, I hold on to the promise that God will give us joy amid our burdens because his favour lasts a lifetime!
I have safely arrived in Mendoza following an eventful 40-hour journey! I had quite a chaotic and stressful first few weeks in Argentina. My flight from London to São Paulo was delayed, meaning I missed my connecting flight to Mendoza. I was then stranded in Brazil for 6 hours before I got a flight to Santiago and then to Mendoza. At least now I can say that I visited 5 countries in the space of 48 hours! Upon arriving in Mendoza, the baggage handlers went on strike and held my luggage hostage. Upon being reuniting with my luggage the following day, I discovered that my large suitcase with all my winter clothing was still in São Paulo! However, by God’s goodness, I have made it to my new home for the next six months and have been united with all my things!
