Alex is a BEST study partner at Africa International University in Nairobi.
After he finished university, Alex began a ministry apprenticeship with iServe Africa. He worked for a year with a bible translation project as well as receiving biblical and ministry training from iServe. For his second year of the apprenticeship, Alex helped run TransformD – a Christian gap year scheme for Kenyan school leavers. Harrison Mungai (Director of iServe) shares, ‘Alex has clear gifting and long-term interest in local church ministry. Eventually I would love to see Alex leading a church and teaching the Bible regularly.’
In Kenya, many churches are led by untrained pastors or lay leaders. This means that congregations are often spiritually malnourished and vulnerable to attack. There is a huge need for more people to be trained to preach faithfully from God’s word and lead churches that proclaim the gospel.
Since finishing his apprenticeship, Alex has been working for Emmanuel Baptist Church in Nairobi. He writes, ‘My church is considering sending me as a missionary to the coastal region of Kenya to plant a gospel-proclaiming church. By taking up these studies I will be well equipped with correct biblical tools to respond to the many challenges that face the Kenyan Church. This course is a golden opportunity for me to be equipped so as to equip others in my country.’
