Dear friends and family,

Both Nomfundo and I hope you’re doing well? We’ve been slow off the mark on getting this first update of the year to you all, but you can blame me (Adam) for that. This was originally meant to be our new year update, but I think this can still count so, HAPPY NEW YEAR! I think we can just get away with saying that. Only just.

Nomfundo and I visited the UK for a short while in December. It was so wonderful to be able to spend time with family and see a few friends who were around. It wasn’t a long visit so we weren’t able to see as many people as we would have liked. However, we are grateful for special time with family and to have still set aside time for some good rest. In the Lord’s providence, both Nomfundo and I had many amazing conversations with people as we managed to pause, take stock and reflect on what was quite an intense year for us, last year.

To rewind a little bit, it would be worth pointing out that both Nomfundo and I passed our first year of studies at George Whitefield College! Despite the challenges of last year, we are incredibly grateful for God’s grace and provision to us to get us through. There is much which we could not have anticipated. Yet God knew, and it was for the best and for his great and glorious purposes. Furthermore, the year wasn’t just an opportunity to receive great teaching, but the surrounding circumstances drew us closer to the Lord and to each other as well.

In light of God’s provision to us, it’s a huge encouragement to now share about how the Lord has been directing Nomfundo, as the last few months have progressed. One of the exciting developments over the past year is to witness Nomfundo’s passion and desire to grow in the field of Biblical counselling. Both of us have a passion to care and reach out to the many who are hurting, as a result of trauma in this country. In particular, Nomfundo has a huge desire to reach out to women and children who have been the victims of abuse and violence in South Africa.

She has just embarked on studies for more Biblical counselling modules with an organisation called CCEF. Furthermore, she will be bridging into an honours programme with an online institution called SATS (South African Theological Seminary) to embark on the theology and counselling stream. We praise God for paving the way to make this happen. We are both incredibly grateful for all your support. Praise God for how he provides through his people in many ways. We also praise God for how Nomfundo is finding the courses such an encouragement.

It would probably come as no surprise to tell you all that the year has had a busy start. I started with the second year of the degree a few weeks ago and had an intensive in Hebrew to kick things off which went well. I’m certainly looking forward to the upcoming semester with all of the other modules as well.

Furthermore, we’ve just had a couple of exciting days enjoying some more social and fun time with the college community, as a way to start the new semester. It was an excellent time getting to know new students and reconnecting with returning students. I’m on the Student Representative Council, so it was our responsibility to organise this for the students, as well as help the college ensure that new students are welcomed well and support the college in helping students settle in.

Finally, we’ve both got stuck back in with the Message Church which has recently moved to a new temporary location. We’re still close to the main University of Cape Town campuses, but a change can always be unsettling. Please do be praying for people to be getting used to the new space as we wait for a more permanent space to meet in.

Once again, Nomfundo and I are both incredibly grateful for all of your support and we look forward to this new semester and what the next period will bring.

God bless,
Adam and Nomfundo

Please pray for...

  • Pray for growing relationships at church, in the college community and Muizenberg community to be strengthened, particularly for Nomfundo, who isn’t studying at the college anymore.
  • Pray for The Message Church, as it has moved to a new temporary building. Pray for the congregation to settle more into the new space and for many people to be drawn to the church from the local community, in light of our outreach initiatives.
  • Pray for us to be intentional in seeking to grow our friendship in marriage and to grow in working together to love and serve others, in the Lord’s strength.
