Thorsten serves as a tutor at Edinburgh Bible College. He regularly preaches in local churches and offers pastoral support to church leaders and Christian workers in the UK and Namibia. As a board member, he advises the Mission Department of the Rhenish Church in Namibia. Thorsten has a theological writing ministry concentrating on cross-cultural mission. He is the editor of the Namibian Theological Research Papers. Kerstin’s ministry is at St Thomas Church Edinburgh focusing on Bible studies and pastoral care. She is also studying towards a Diploma in Integrative Counselling from a Christian perspective.
Before moving to EBC, Thorsten and Kerstin worked at Namibia Evangelical Theological Seminary for nine years. Life continues to be unpredictable. We get excited about plans but learn to hold them lightly. It is just as James put it in his letter: ‘Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow...’ (4:13-14a).
We watch in horror as the war in Europe continues and wonder what will happen next. We are so grateful to have escaped a COVID-19 infection so far, but for how long? We booked ferry tickets to go to Germany in May, only for P&O to let all their workers go a few days later. What a great comfort it is to know that it's neither Putin, a pandemic nor P&O who determine our steps. ‘“If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”’ (4:15) There is always a bigger picture, and we mustn't lose sight of God's sovereignty.
