Dear friends,
Life continues to be unpredictable. We get excited about plans but learn to hold them lightly. It is just as James put it in his letter: ‘Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow...’ (4:13-14a).
We watch in horror as the war in Europe continues and wonder what will happen next. We are so grateful to have escaped a COVID-19 infection so far, but for how long? We booked ferry tickets to go to Germany in May, only for P&O to let all their workers go a few days later. What a great comfort it is to know that it's neither Putin, a pandemic nor P&O who determine our steps. ‘“If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”’ (4:15) There is always a bigger picture, and we mustn't lose sight of God's sovereignty.
