June 2022

Dear Friends,

I am thankful to God for another year that I’ve been able to spend in Hungary. I’m also thankful that I get to go back to the UK for a two–week visit at the beginning of July, where I’ll be spending time in and around London. Thank you for your prayers. I found flights on dates that suit me really well and had a reasonable price tag.

In May, I taught on our Acorn Bible Training course (ABK). I was helping the students prepare to teach from Psalm 23 in their youth groups. During my prep, God was definitely shaping my heart to believe what the psalm says and to trust him as my Shepherd.

These truths also came in handy on the day, as there were some things that didn’t go according to our plans, but they worked out great in the end. Praise God for guiding us on the path he considers the best, and for providing for us along the way. The course is now finished. Please pray for this year’s students as they carry on in their ministries, that they would keep benefitting from what they have learnt and would be able to pass it on as well. And please pray that more people would sign up for next year’s course. We’d love to see more people in Hungary teaching the Bible faithfully, clearly and relevantly.

I had a good friend visit me in May – my former boss, Dave (top photo). We wondered around Budapest for two days. I again realised what a gorgeous city I live in. It was very refreshing and also gave us the opportunity to catch up in person. I look forward to seeing more of him in July.

The number of young people coming to the youth group at Sarokkő Gyülekezet (Cornerstone Church) has decreased in the last few weeks. Schools break for summer mid-June in Hungary, and students have their big, end of the year final exams beforehand, so this is not unusual. But we’d love for them to keep going strong with the Lord. We take a break for the summer, but will hopefully see many of them on our church week away at the end of July. Please pray that they wouldn’t put their relationship with Jesus on pause just because there are no youth events for a while.

(The picture with the houses of cards is from an evening when we talked about faith and science. We made many different things that evening, but we couldn’t create anything from nothing – unlike our God.)

Finally, thank you for praying for my next year and my motivation in trying to decide what to do. I have found much joy in the work I do and I am staying with Acorn for another year. This will be my third year as a short–term mission partner. Thank you so much for making it possible for me to be doing this. And I am also grateful to God for bringing me back here and for the ways he has been growing me and providing for me.

‘The LORD is my Shepherd, I lack nothing.’ Psalm 23:1

The Lord bless you,
Szilárd (Tam)
