‘Finally be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.’ Ephesians 6:10

We have just finished preaching through Ephesians on Sundays and it’s been a great encouragement not to lose heart but to stand firm knowing that God’s plan for a new creation under the rule of the Lord Jesus is on track.

March mission

For many of us the highlight of the last few months was the ‘Real Lives’ mission led by Roger Carswell. We had him for a week and shared him with our two church plants in Brockley and Sydenham. Here in Dulwich the gospel was faithfully and winsomely proclaimed to good numbers of people on three different occasions and it was encouraging to see a real breadth of people inviting. Please pray for us as we continue to follow people up.

Other news

  • We continue to be grateful for Fiona Neden as our new part-time women’s ministry team leader. Pray for her as she meets up with individuals and for a growing sense of gospel partnership among the women.
  • Our mums and toddlers group ‘Scallywags’ has seen a real turn around over the last few months with more people coming and a growing vision for the work amongst church mums.
  • We’ve had weekends away for both our JAM youth group (Yrs 9-13) and Eagles (Yrs 7-8). Do pray for these key years as they begin to learn to stand on their own feet spiritually. We’re grateful for the Lord’s provision of Sunday Club and youth leaders but please pray for more from September, especially female leaders for JAM.
  • Thanks also for separate men’s and women’s weekends away which are so useful in generating gospel partnership in our very time-poor culture.
  • Gives thanks for Simon’s time in Zambia and for safe travel. It was very encouraging to see the work of Proclamation Institute Zambia as they train bible teachers and churcheaders.
  • Four families went to Word Alive and were strengthened by it. We’re praying for a larger group in 2020.

For prayer

  • We have seen more people hear the gospel during the course of the last six months than we have for a long time - Christmas services, the annual women’s lunch and ‘Real Lives.’ And yet the work is slow. Please pray we’d persevere in sowing the seed and with individuals as they count the cost.
  • We are thrilled that Jake Tasker will be joining the staff team part-time from September. He and Lizzie have been part of the church family for five years and he will be helping us with our outreach and also discipling younger guys while doing the Cornhill Training Course part-time.
  • We are fairly full on Sundays so looking ahead we need to think about whether to grow as we are, for example by starting a new service or congregation on the existing site, or to plant again. Please pray for both wisdom and boldness!
  • For the large number of young people going on summer camps in July together with church family members leading and helping to cook.
  • For negotiations with the diocese over our Bishops Mission Order.

Thank you so much for your partnership in the gospel.

Simon, Rachel, Hannah, Jack & Jemima
