Latest News from Simon and Rachel Dowdy
‘The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected… and be killed, and on the third day be raised’ Luke 9:22
Thank you for your continued interest in and prayer for us as we seek to serve the Lord Jesus in Dulwich.
Thanks and Praise
- We’ve been continuing to look at Luke’s gospel on Sundays- having a bigger view of salvation and our eyes drawn to the new creation. Please pray that as a church family we’d be willing to do what is often the culturally shameful thing of daily taking up our cross and following the unimpressive, crucified Saviour.
- A good crowd came to the women’s lunch, around 50 in all with useful conversations around tables. A smaller number came to the Ceilidh many of whom had never been to anything at GCD before.
- For events in the golf club and a pub in March- for faithful talks and friends coming along. Pray for helpful next steps.
- Thanks for praying for the JAM (Yrs 9-13) and Eagles (Yrs 7-8) weekends away. Eagles in particular had a terrific time in Jonah and bonding as a group.
For Prayer
- Preaching through Luke 9 over the next four weeks followed by a series on ‘Identity- what it means to be human’ to help us engage with contemporary issues.
- Scallywags our mums and toddlers group- continues to be encouraging with lots of new people. Pray for continuity with people coming and good friendships to be formed.
- Our Yrs 11-13 weekly bible study is now well established- pray they’d keep coming during exams and be equipped for leadership in their CU’s at school and university.
- We have lots of Yrs 6-13’s on camps (CYFA and LDN) in July plus lots of the church family helping to lead or cook. Pray for joy in listening and serving.
- Jenny Williams continues to flourish which we are grateful for. Andy Meadows our youth and children’s minister and his wife are about to have their baby so pray for good new routines for him.
- The Bishop’s Mission Order- we are grateful that we will receive extended oversight from Bishop Rod Thomas- pray for a BMO which works well for us and other likeminded church plants in the diocese.
Dates and Events
- Our 24 hour men’s get away 6 - 7 May- pray that some of the relative newcomers and fringe would come along and for a helpful time re-focusing and re-energising gospel vision and building friendships.
- A guest event on Sunday 13 May ‘How to make a failure out of success’ on the parable of the rich fool. Pray for many to come and ears to be opened in our very success driven culture.
- A women’s 24 hours away trip on 19 May with Jenny speaking on ‘Taming the Tongue’ from James.
- Saturday 9 June is our annual BBQ and games afternoon/ evening- an easy invite for friends and neighbours to meet the church family and newcomers to be integrated.
Thank you so much for your partnership in the gospel
