Julia is working alongside Joe and Rachel Clarke and their ministry with the Portuguese national Christian Union movement (GBU).
For her first year in Portugal, Julia is taking Portuguese lessons and sharing the gospel with other international students. As her language improves, Julia hopes to disciple students and encourage them in their evangelism.
Julia studied Music at Cambridge where she was actively involved with both her church and the Christian Union. After she graduated, Julia served as a UCCF Relay Worker followed by two years as a ministry trainee at Grace Church Greenwich in south east London.
I can hardly believe that a whole academic year of ministry in Portugal has gone by!
But at the same time it feels like a lifetime ago that I arrived. In September no-one had heard of COVID-19 and Britain was still officially part of the EU. I’d love to share my reflections on life and ministry with you from this first year.
It is a huge privilege to be in a community of people regularly listening to Jesus’s word. I already ‘knew’ this when I arrived but, after experiencing a year of relative lack, I am more deeply convinced of this truth. In some GBU meetings the Bible isn’t opened and Jesus isn’t mentioned. However, in January there were two very significant and exciting changes to GBU Coimbra: weekly small-group bible studies in Mark and fortnightly expositions through John 13-17. Praise God for the huge privilege it is to be in a community that regularly listens to Jesus’s word.
