Jo is studying Spanish and Italian at Durham University. She would like to use her year abroad to serve God and improve her language skills. Jo spent four months (September – December 2018) in Bilbao, Spain and is now in Bologna, Italy from January – June 2019.
In Bologna, Jo is serving at Forte Torre Church alongside Crosslinks mission partners JP and Sue Aranzulla.
In Spain, Jo served at Sarriko Church in Bilbao where the evangelical Spanish speaking church and international English speaking church are linked. Jo was involved with bible study groups, helping with the children’s work and music. She also taught English and shared the gospel through that.

It’s now only a week or so till I head home from Bilbao, and while I’m very relieved my time here is nearly over, I’m trying to keep reminding myself that God perfectly plans everything, and nothing happens outside of his will or his control. These months have definitely chucked up much harder challenges than I’ve had to face before, but there is immense comfort in knowing God is sovereign and prunes and refines us so that we may become more steadfast and more like Jesus.
I was very encouraged reading Hebrews 11 one-to-one with a lady from church this week, seeing the example of the ‘heroes of faith’ throughout the Old Testament. They were so convicted of God’s power, sovereignty, status and goodness that they trusted him in everything, even apparent failures - and did so always looking to their heavenly reward: ‘By faith Abraham obeyed…. for he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.’ (Hebrews 11: 8-10)
