Jack is serving God whilst improving his language skills on his university language year abroad. Jack is spending September 2018 – February 2019 in Leipzig, Germany and then February – July 2019 in Brussels, Belgium.
In Leipzig, Jack is serving as a ministry apprentice at Leipzig English Church and getting involved in the German speaking activities there. He is studying on the Moore College online course in German. He is also part of a home group and is involved with youth work and one-to-one discipleship with students. Jack also has opportunities to lead services, give talks in youth groups and develop his preaching skills.
In Brussels Jack is serving as a church apprentice at Woluwe Church (alongside mission partners Steve and Dawn Orange and Robbie and Lizzie Bellis). Le Stage 222 apprenticeship programme involves participating in the church student group, helping with children’s groups, teaching Sunday school, leading a youth group, reading the Bible one-to-one and studying one day a week at the Belgian Bible Institute – all in French!

My time in Germany has been great so far. For the first few weeks I stayed with an assistant pastor and his wife who were very good to me and made me feel right at home. Recently I moved in with two guys from the church who are around my age and we have had lots of laughs, bible chats and loud singing.
My church is a short-bike ride away and has three services. I have been going to the German service and the evening English service. I have spoken a lot of German and my language skills are gradually improving. It is still difficult to understand German speakers when there is a lot of background noise but it is certainly easier than when I first joined.
