April 2021

A big thank you for your prayers. We are surviving but, like everyone, we are finding the COVID experience hard work.

Frances' operation last month went well and she is recovering but convalescence seems to have taken longer than we expected and her energy still seems to suddenly evaporate. Soup and soft food have now lost their appeal but we are told that she can start to eat more normally from next weekend.

We particularly wanted to celebrate Easter in a memorable way so we prepared an open air walking service in the centre of town to comply with the current strict restrictions. A few days beforehand hardly anyone had committed themselves but eventually there were about 15 of us in groups of four. We each had printed service sheets with scripture, meditations, prayers and songs. A special moment was in the town square at the end when one group after another sang Thine be the glory to finish the service.

Some friends from Brussels have suggested a house swap so we are going away for a few days this week – we even hope to meet up with one or two other friends which will be a real treat. Please pray this will be a much needed boost as we are currently feeling rather weary.

Belgium is in its third COVID wave and the vaccines are slow coming. Please pray for progress on this front.

Greetings from chilly Binche,

Charles and Frances
