Charles and Frances de Roemer

Charles and Frances have been serving in Belgium for 28 years, originally with VIANOVA (formerly the Belgian Evangelical Mission) and now with Crosslinks. They worked with a number of churches before planting a church in Binche in 2005.
Eglise Protestante Evangélique de Binche is a small church made up of around 20 people. Charles preaches most Sundays whilst Frances leads services, teaches in the Sunday school, manages finance and admin and helps with music.
Binche and the surrounding region have a population of 121,000 but just two other protestant churches. Charles and Frances run a youth group in the town, reaching up to 20 teenagers each month. Frances also reaches out to the community through teaching English and taking part in walking and art groups.

Frances' operation last month went well and she is recovering but convalescence seems to have taken longer than we expected and her energy still seems to suddenly evaporate. Soup and soft food have now lost their appeal but we are told that she can start to eat more normally from next weekend.
We particularly wanted to celebrate Easter in a memorable way so we prepared an open air walking service in the centre of town to comply with the current strict restrictions. A few days beforehand hardly anyone had committed themselves but eventually there were about 15 of us in groups of four. We each had printed service sheets with scripture, meditations, prayers and songs. A special moment was in the town square at the end when one group after another sang Thine be the glory to finish the service.
