June 2019

This July Acorncamps is organising a single joint camp for the Hungarian churches we partner with.

Teenagers will come from more than 10 churches across the protestant denominations to join with their leaders and an experienced team of 26 youth leaders from the UK. Our aim is at least fourfold:

Meet with God

We have designed the programme to give maximum opportunity for leaders and teenagers to hear and learn more about the God we serve, and his Son the Lord Jesus Christ. A packed programme will include time for morning devotions, evening talks led by Hungarian pastors, seminars covering everything from porn to self-image, relationships, sharing your faith and morning talks. The morning sessions will take us through chapters 2-4 of John’s incredible gospel. We will ‘meet’ with Jesus at a wedding, in the temple, talking with Nicodemus, a Samaritan woman and a royal official. Our prayer is that some kids will come to ‘meet’ Jesus for the first time and many others will be strengthened in following him.

Meet the ‘English’

Of course not all the team are strictly English, but for the Hungarians the opportunity to meet the team of native English speakers is exciting. The team is energetic, fun, experienced at working with youth and have a passion for loving Jesus and making him known. For a good number of teenagers it is the language element that attracts them to the camp. The opportunity to practice with ‘genuine’ native-speakers. We want to make the most of this opportunity, so please pray for those who come because of this to go home having found more than they bargained for.

Meet other youth

Hungarian Christian youth, whilst being in a better situation spiritually than those in the UK, are still hugely in the minority. It’s not easy to stand up for Jesus in secondary schools. We hope this summer will encourage the faith of 100 plus teenagers and help them to realise they are not alone. We pray that deep relationships will be formed and also that gospel priorities, and not denominational differences, would become more important in their lives.

We hope this gives you a small insight into our summer adventure. We are very aware of many things that could go wrong with bringing people together from many churches, backgrounds, and traditions. Please pray with us that God would be glorified, Christ lifted up and his people encouraged…

Praise God for...

  • A great united core-team of UK and Hungarian leaders who work well together and passionately want to see Jesus glorified through the camp
  • The churches involved and all the teenagers who have applied

Please pray for...

  • All the leaders running activities (including speakers) during the camp, that each would complete their required tasks (i) on time, (ii) to the best of their God-given ability and (iii) with God’s help
  • Teenagers to mingle on the camp and make long-lasting friendships with others. Please pray for teenagers who are coming who might not know many others, that they would not feel left out, and that night-times would be hassle-free.
  • Teenagers to become Christians over the week, others to start joining youth groups and others to be encouraged to keep going in the faith.
  • Leaders to be inspired by the training for them and that they would go home better equipped to carry on with youth work.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support and prayer.

Isten áldjon! (God bless you!)
