July 2019

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5.8

We are preaching through the book of Romans both at church and at CEP and it has been wonderful to be reminded how the cross of Jesus reveals to us the depth and extent and power of God’s love for his children. Please pray for us to grow in our own knowledge of that love together as a family so that we might be able to share that love with others in our ministry at church, at CEP and in the community

Life at CEP

Over the past month at CEP the community has been hit hard by a number of medical emergencies that have faced a couple of the students.

Alex and his family

Please pray for Alex who was diagnosed with a rapidly growing tumour in his neck. He underwent emergency surgery two weeks ago and wonderfully the growth was shown to be benign. We are so thankful for this diagnosis but pray on for Alex in his recovery and for the doctors as they seek to understand what caused the growth to emerge in the first place. Please pray for his wife Kari and their ten-month-old daughter Emi as they cope with the emotional and physical strain of this time.

Ale and his wife Marilu

Please also join us in praying for another student Ale whose son Josue was born premature due to severe complications in the pregnancy. His wife Marilu is in a very delicate situation and the baby is currently in intensive care. Josue has a hole in the heart, but the doctors say that they cannot operate until he has put on more weight. Please pray that the Lord would heal and restore Josue and that the family would know his compassion, care and love during these next uncertain weeks.

The first semester at CEP is coming to an end with essay due dates and exams coming thick and fast over the first half of July. However, situations like these remind us all of our weakness and dependence on the Lord. Please pray that we as a community would be able to care for Alex, Ale and their families and that we together might entrust ourselves to our Heavenly Father and his love for us in Jesus.

Life at Home

We continue to be thankful for the different opportunities that we have to share in the ministry of our church family. At the start of month Mary hosted a breakfast for the women in the church at our flat (pictured at top of page). It was a wonderful time of deepening friendships and encouraging one another to know the privilege and joy it is to be ‘daughters of the King.’ Please pray for the upcoming conference ‘Lael’ on 6 July that will bring together women from churches throughout the central region of Chile. Please pray that this might be a time in which the women are encouraged and challenged to live wholeheartedly for Jesus who loves them.

At the end of June our church hosted the first part of a two-day course that seeks to help serve the marriages in the church. This is an area where there is desperate need in both the church and the culture as a whole. We know of very few couples who come from healthy, faithful and stable family backgrounds and see the consequences of broken relationships all around us. We gave a talk on dealing with conflict in marriage and will be leading a session on forgiveness in the next day of the course in July. We pray that the Lord would work so that we would be a church where marriages are shaped by the love of Jesus that is made known on the cross.

We are really looking forward a trip back to the UK at the end of the year. The plan is to be in the UK from the end of November 2019 to the beginning of March 2020. It will have been two and a half years since our last trip back and we are sure that it will be another precious time with family, friends and partner churches. Please pray for all the logistics of travel and visits to come together smoothly so that we might make the most of this opportunity.
