Vitacura is a suburb of Chile's capital city Santiago. It is one of the wealthiest areas of the country but is sadly one the most gospel-needy.
Iglesia Cristo Redentor launched in Vitacura in March 2019. It aims to be a healthy, generous church that is centred in Christ and reaches out to the community. Diego Pacheco is currently pastoring the congregation but, in order to work there full time, he requires financial and prayerful support from gospel partners around the world.
Diego trained as a ministry apprentice for two years at a church plant in Valparaíso, followed by four years of Theological studies at the Centre for Pastoral Studies in Santiago. At Iglesia Cristo Redentor, Diego leads small group and one-to-one bible studies, preaches at Sunday services and trains others to understand the Bible for themselves. The church is also committed to reaching out to unbelievers in the area with the good news of Christ. Long-term, they hope to create a gospel hub from which other churches can be planted and supported.
We had just finished the Sunday service and Enrique looked at me as if something important had happened. Enrique is one of the oldest members of our congregation and had started to pray for a church in Vitacura about 15 years ago. He was one of the men who founded this church and he is one of those who stayed persevering in the midst of the crisis that shook them a few years ago. He is now in his eighties and remains a faithful servant of his Lord. So, when he looks at me like that, I listen.
