It is our hope that you are in peace with the Lord and his mission as you read this newsletter. In this newsletter, we long to tell you what the Lord has been doing in us in this last year: we have a lot to be thankful for.
Our beautiful daughters keep growing and now they are going into the hard season of adolescence. Every day we are faced with decision making, granting of permissions, knowing how to answer difficult questions and trusting in God’s care over their lives. All of you who have gone through this season know what we are talking about. It is our hope that every one of us longs to love and know more about the Lord personally and as a family. Relational, educational, working and social challenges are ahead, but in midst of all this we want to be at Jesus’ feet as a family, constantly enjoying his love.
Some of you closely followed our trip to India. We can’t believe it’s been a year since that huge proof of God’s love in our lives. This year we have been close to Verónica and Guru, since they are in Chile. We have been able to pay attention to their needs and pray for discernment for the next season of their lives. Our church is committed with this marriage long-term and it is our desire to keep being part of what the Lord is doing in India.
We must thank the Father for allowing us be part of ISA’s growth these last 10 years. It has been a blessing and privilege to see how he grows his people, gives life to new believers, strengthens and renews the weary’s faith and moves us to mission in faith in the midst of the challenging settings found in Downtown Santiago.
God has encouraged us to plan a new church plant in the university neighbourhood in the República area. Our deacon, Max Díaz, has formed a plant team during 2019. This May we are hoping to celebrate the birth of a new congregation in a neighbourhood that for years has caught our attention.
We are also very grateful because Ale has been able to grow in her service with women. The Lael Conference keeps bearing fruit and encouraging women of different denominations to be passionate women of influence in the Church. Ale has also been able to help implement an American ministry called PARAKALEO. The main goal is to accompany and train pastors’ and church planters’ wives. We give thanks to the Lord for this ministry, since she has received good practical tools and has made new gospel friends whom she can pray with and support.
As a family, we love Christ’s Church and we long to see her grow in the joy of the Lord every day, and to multiply healthily in Chile and Latin America. We believe that it is through the multiplication of healthy churches that the Gospel is spread in a bigger and better way.
Some of you know that, along with my pastoral work at ISA, I am the part-time rector of CEP. We thank the Lord for 2019. The Lord has allowed me to know better how an Anglican seminary works and, therefore, be aware of how to prioritise tasks for its good development. We thank God for new students starting in March 2020 and in 2021. To welcome them all we need to grow our logistical capacity, infrastructure and body of national teachers.
We give thanks to God for allowing us to keep serving the national church through this foundation. I do not have a role within the board anymore, but do have influence in respect to vision and spiritual leadership. Throughout the years, we have seen how this foundation promotes an evangelistic and discipleship style that loves God’s word and the surrounding culture. MOU as well as Semillero are permanent programmes in service of young people from different congregations. We know that it was young people who started the social outbreak in schools and universities in 2019 - both of which are environments that we consider our mission fields.
Thank you for your friendship and partnership throughout the years! We want to give thanks to the Lord because he has not allowed us to be alone in our pastoral ministry. As a family we have always felt taken care of and loved by many friends that we know are praying for us and genuinely wish that all goes well with us (3 John 2). We do not take for granted this permanent and selfless partnership. We see it as another proof of the undeserved grace of God over our lives since he decided to reveal the love of his beloved one to our hearts and change us forever.
The Apostle Paul prayed this for his friends in Ephesus:
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead… Ephesians 1:17-20
Know that this will be our prayer for you throughout this year.
In Jesus’ love, Ale, Belén, Jacinta, Amanda and Cris
May the Lord guard our hearts and minds as a family, so that we can know him and love him better during 2020. May he give us wisdom to make good decisions as our daughters grow. May the Lord provide for the different needs we will have and may he protect us in the mission.
May the Lord guide ISA and allow us to be good mission partners with Guru and Vero. May God allow us to grow in our vision as a missional church prays, supports and sends missionaries everywhere in the world.
May the Lord let us keep shepherding ISA with love and faithfulness. May he allow our congregation to grow and the new church plant to endure. May many women be encouraged to serve in their local churches and may the pastor’s wives be encouraged by the gospel we preach and that we want others to know. Pray that Ale may be guided by the Holy Spirit as she faces new ministry challenges.
May the Lord raise up more workers for his mission. May the local churches make theirs the responsibility to pray, call, and send well-trained workers to plant and renew churches throughout the whole country. May the Lord let us see the emergence of new national teachers so they may be part of the instructional team at CEP. May the Lord allow us to see how this vision also spreads to countries in our region.
May the Lord guide the leaders of the foundation with his Spirit so that, as they plan for the next five to ten years, they can have his vision in mind. Pray that new initiatives will serve the Kingdom’s extension.
