Ella and Iona will spend six months in Johannesburg with mission partners James and Lucy Buchanan at Hope Church.
Hope Church Auckland Park holds out the good news of the gospel to the diverse communities in the city. Though the church is growing fast, it is in great need of more workers as there is a shortage of church workers who are trained to minister specifically to children, teenagers and young adults.
Ella and Iona will be helping with the children’s and youth work at Hope Church alongside the staff team and short-term mission partners Adam Tomalin and Bethany Soper, as well as spending time studying at Johannesburg Bible College (JBC). The girls flew out in January 2019 and will return in June.

Hi all, it’s Ella here! Thank you for all your prayers so far and we hope everyone back home is well. We’ve now been in Johannesburg for a month and these past two weeks have been even more chaotic than the first!
On 2 February we moved house from Charles and Alison’s to the Buchanan’s. This was a week earlier than planned, because living so far away from church became quite complicated as we got more involved with everything. We only had to get up at 7:50 this Wednesday - quite a difference from the 6:20 which we were waking up at for the past three weeks! We are currently staying in the spare room at the Buchanan’s. Thankfully for us (and their kitchen) we are eating our tea with them most evenings and just making our own breakfast and lunch. Despite several attempts from Alison explaining to us how, we still had a slight issue with turning on their oven... On two separate occasions we resorted to cooking chips in a frying pan on the hob - the second occasion of which we managed to set fire to the pan... so overall Iona and I are quite pleased at the break from cooking! Though we shall have to improve for when we move into our own cottage later in the trip.
