Ella and Iona are spending six months in Johannesburg with mission partners James and Lucy Buchanan at Hope Church.
Hope Church Auckland Park holds out the good news of the gospel to the diverse communities in the city. Though the church is growing fast, it is in great need of more workers as there is a shortage of church workers who are trained to minister specifically to children, teenagers and young adults.
Ella and Iona are helping with the children’s and youth work at Hope Church alongside the staff team and short-term mission partners Adam Tomalin and Bethany Soper, as well as spending time studying at Johannesburg Bible College (JBC). The girls flew out in January 2019 and will return in June.
Apologies for the delay in this reaching you, as we were away for most of last week it has slightly delayed the writing process. Again, thank you so much for praying for us, we feel really well supported despite being so far away!
We’ve been much better about exploring Johannesburg recently, and have managed to get to the Apartheid Museum as well as some parks and the more “hipster” parts of the city. We also really enjoyed going to an open mic night at a place called “Spilt Milk’ in Melville, where we watched Adam, Busi and Marvin (who all work for Hope Church) perform some Christian songs. It went down really well which was encouraging, and made us realise how much more open to Christianity the culture is here than in the UK.
