Sarah is using her professional skills as an arts psychotherapist to serve at Trinity Children’s Centre in Mitchells Plain.
Trinity Children’s Centre is a Christian school that reaches out to children in a community full of violence, substance abuse, domestic conflict, poverty and inequality. The centre provides a space where children can hear the gospel, receive an education and grow in the love of God.
Sarah is using art and craft, music, drama, puppets and play therapy in her work with the children, alongside sharing the good news of Christ with them. She has also set up a sewing project for local women, which she hopes will lead to the development of a clothing label that can generate funds for gospel work.
Throughout lockdown, much of Sarah's work was put on hold. Instead, she produced daily puppet videos to help children deal with what was going on around them and introduce them to Jesus. View Sarah's videos here.
A lot is happening in South Africa at present. There has been rioting and looting which has caused great unrest and huge disruption. We have also gone into our third wave, with COVID cases rising rapidly. Unfortunately this means that lockdown restrictions have tightened again and so schools and churches are closed.
For the first two weeks of these, my school was already closed for the holidays – so I was away enjoying a much needed break hiking in the mountains. This seemed by far the safest place to be for avoiding COVID.
