Sarah is using her professional skills as an arts psychotherapist to serve at Trinity Children’s Centre in Mitchells Plain.
Trinity Children’s Centre is a Christian school that reaches out to children in a community full of violence, substance abuse, domestic conflict, poverty and inequality. The centre provides a space where children can hear the gospel, receive an education and grow in the love of God.
Sarah is using art and craft, music, drama, puppets and play therapy in her work with the children, alongside sharing the good news of Christ with them. She has also set up a sewing project for local women, which she hopes will lead to the development of a clothing label that can generate funds for gospel work.
Throughout lockdown, much of Sarah's work was put on hold. Instead, she produced daily puppet videos to help children deal with what was going on around them and introduce them to Jesus. View Sarah's videos here.
I feel like lots of exciting stuff has been happening since I last wrote. Lockdown restrictions have been lifted and the church is filling back up which is a joy to see. We have had a lot of power cuts which have been quite disruptive but through my work I have seen a lot of growth. I am looking forward to coming back to the UK for a month over Christmas. After being away for two years it will be lovely to see friends and family again.
Connecting with a child in school who comes from a very difficult background – we painted each other’s faces!
