“…and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:2

PIZ student appointed as church planter

Moses is one of our 2017 graduates. Before hearing about PIZ from another student he had a ‘dream’ of planting a Church in Garneton East area of Kitwe. Unknown to him Kitwe Chapel were planning to Church plant in this very area. Moses heard about their work and got involved. Having completed his course at PIZ, which focused on expository preaching, Moses has developed his skills and is a gifted preacher. Kitwe Chapel have asked him to spearhead the Church planting work in Garneton East. We serve an amazing God!

Moses’ background is that he qualified to enter university but couldn't pursue his studies because his father (who could have paid his university fees) died before the course started. His PIZ fees were paid by a generous UK family whom we know very well. Pray that Moses will succeed in this new work as he excelled in his studies.

Catching up with PIZ alumni

Cecilia graduated in 2016. Student ministry has been on her heart for many years and she formerly volunteered for Scripture Union and ZAFES (Zambian IFES group) for a number of years. Having completed her studies she remained with PIZ for nine months as our Fundraising Officer. Last year she applied to study for a Bachelor of Theology at George Whitfield College (GWC) in Cape Town, starting January 2018. Upon completion, Cecilia plans to return to Zambia to do student ministry.

Cecilia is an orphan but God has done wonders in her life. Pray that she excels in her studies at GWC as she did at PIZ. When we requested a photo she was busy preparing for a test in New Testament Greek. Crosslinks have played a major part in funding her study and we are so thankful for their partnership in the Gospel.

On Friday 26th January Andrew Muwowo met up with 2016 and 2017 PIZ graduates at Nandos, within the prestigious Mukuba mall. What a joyous occasion it was! We discussed a number of things and agreed on some key points:

  1. To run a seminar on church planting and mobilising resources for such work, in Zambia and beyond. The seminar will take place during the second half-term holiday at PIZ.
  2.  As church plants which are led by alumni grow, these churches will seek to sponsor PIZ students.
  3. Praying for at least one church plant to be spearheaded by a PIZ graduate each year.
  4. There was a sentiment that some churches are not as missional as they ought to be. It is likely this is a challenge for the alumni going forward with mission. We will address this at the June seminar.

2018 Developments

New 2018 Class Intake

There was an outbreak of cholera in Lusaka which meant all schools, colleges and universities had to delay the start of the new academic year because of Government directives. The college opened on 22nd instead of 8th January. There is a picture of some of this year's students along with UK visitors at the top of this letter.

Provision of PIZ Principal

We thank God for the provision of Chris Hawthorne as the next principal of PIZ from January 2019. Chris will be employed by PIZ with support from Grace Baptist Mission. The Hawthornes (Chris and Helen, Joshua, Reuben and Rebekah) will move to Zambia in November 2018. Please pray for 100% funding before November this year.

Down on the Farm

PIZ continues to make new partners in ministry. Gavin Hill and his son James visited PIZ along with Andrew in January. Gavin has been in the poultry business for more than 30 years and James works in marketing and project management. They are working with the team on the ground to establish a farm which will generate funds to run the college. Good progress has been made even in the few weeks since they left.

Volunteers Needed!

Our UK office needs volunteers to take on a number of key roles to support our work:

  1. Book keeping
  2. Event Management. Examples of events include: A taste of Zambia, Bewl Walk, London Beach Hotel fundraising dinner, and organising fundraising dinners in different parts of the UK.
  3. Overseeing exhibitions at conferences including Word Alive, Banner of Truth, Aberystwyth, Bangor World Mission Convention, World Changers, Keswick and others.

Support Us

Please prayerfully consider sponsoring a student at PIZ at £258 per month. For a church of 30 members this comes to £8.60 per member per month for 12 months. For a church of 50 members this comes to £5.20 per member per month for 12 months. Are you able to mobilise your church or friends for this strategic ministry?
