November 2022

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.’ James 5:13

Dear brothers and sisters,
Thank you so much and God the Holy Spirit for your toil in prayer, up-building messages and sacrificial support. They stir us up to love, sing praises and to good works as we study the Bible with student church leaders, equip the women and train children and youth leaders to handle God’s word correctly.

James 5:13 tells us to pray at all times to our heavenly Father in all of life’s circumstances that we find ourselves in. James says ‘Are you happy? Praise God! Are you suffering and sad? Pray to God.’ This verse has really encouraged me to pray whenever I’ve encountered trials and challenges this year and at all times. The results have been a deeper commune with our Father in heaven, wanting to spend more time with him in prayer, being strengthened to keep on knowing our Lord Jesus more and make him known, being sensitive to deviation from God’s word and being joyful, thankful and content.

Relite Africa Ministry
We give glory and thanks to our Lord for helping us and our lecturers Rev Boamah, Rev Coomson and Pastor Ameyaw to train and graduate 43 students out of 50 student church leaders. The graduation ceremony for the 2021–2022 cohort of the Relite Bible handling course happened on 22 September 2022. Christian book awards were given for the best expositions, the most servant-hearted, those with full attendance and for those who raised funds for the two weeks residential aspect of the training. The Legon University is on vacation so most of the students have gone home. Some Relite alumni will return to campus in January 2023 to continue with their academic studies, while others will do National Service (where they serve the country for one year in their field of study or choice – similar to work placement). Please pray that when the University re-opens, those who completed the course will be active and humble in their various churches, passing on and applying the Bible handling skills they’ve gained in teaching and helping others. Pray that the Lord will help them and they won’t revert to their former ways of handling the Scriptures (which are easier).

Legon Interdenominational church
Praise the Lord for the encouraging attendance at church and Bible studies post Covid-19 on Sundays, despite the rising cost of travel and increase in the prices of goods due to the rising fuel costs. Prices of goods in shops change every week and travel prices every month. Most Ghanaians are really struggling – paying children’s school fees (Secondary school is free), hospital bills, food, and supporting elderly parents’ medical care. Travel cost have almost doubled in the last two months. Please pray that the Lord will bring stability to Ghana’s economy so that more of us can meet physically at church and the cost of travel won’t affect our meeting together. Our church has also trained more leaders to lead Bible studies locally in homes so that we can reach our neighbours with the good news of salvation and hope. I am praying for one starting in my area – a neighbour has offered their home. Please pray we can start soon and for challenges like language barriers (some are not able to speak English or read the Bible in their local language) will be overcome, thank you.

Please also pray for our church’s young adult’s fellowship (YAF) weekend away, for the 25–35 year olds. The weekend is happening 26–27 November, and due to costs it has been shortened by a day or so. I have been asked to write a Bible study on Ruth 1 for our time away. Please pray we’ll come to know the character of the Lord, love him and live wholeheartedly for his glory. Please also for the other speakers attending, for a mutually encouraging time!

Please pray for energy and strength and affordable accommodation.

With love in Christ,
Portia
