Nick and Harriet moved to The Gambia in June 2018 to be involved with a small bible school - Servants of the Word (SOW).
Evangelical Christians make up less than 1% of the population of The Gambia and most Christian leaders have had no formal bible training. SOW was established in 2012 to train local gospel workers in preaching and bible-teaching ministries. However, more theologically educated teachers are needed to deliver the course and disciple the students.
Nick is teaching at SOW, as well as helping with the work of GAMFES (Gambian Fellowship of Evangelical Students) and the ministry of local churches. As well as caring for their two young children (Phoebe and Arthur), Harriet is using her experience as an English teacher to help those with poor literacy to access the course at SOW.

Parents’ visits: It has been great to host both sets of our parents and we feel very grateful for their support and encouragement in the work we’re doing out here.
Preaching at churches: Nick’s had a couple of opportunities to preach; once at our church (Wellingara) and another time at a church of two of the SOW students (Yuna). It’s been challenging to get to grips with communicating to a different culture and through translation. But it’s also been a privilege to be able to try and model what expositional preaching is and how we see Christ most clearly when we look at the Bible carefully.
