Nick and Harriet moved to The Gambia in June 2018 to be involved with a small bible school - Servants of the Word (SOW).
Evangelical Christians make up less than 1% of the population of The Gambia and most Christian leaders have had no formal bible training. SOW was established in 2012 to train local gospel workers in preaching and bible-teaching ministries. However, more theologically educated teachers are needed to deliver the course and disciple the students.
Nick is teaching at SOW, as well as helping with the work of GAMFES (Gambian Fellowship of Evangelical Students) and the ministry of local churches. As well as caring for their three young children (Phoebe, Arthur and Olive), Harriet is using her experience as an English teacher to help those with poor literacy to access the course at SOW.

Hello from the Gambia where the bright red and yellow cashew fruits are dotting the trees and the days are hot but the evenings are wonderfully cool. Life has continued to be intense since the initial settling phase, with an extended bout of illness making its way through the family, an out of action car for three weeks, a constant stream of people coming to greet us at the house, some difficulties at school for the children and lots on at SOW of course! In it all, we are grateful to God for many prayers answered and his grace in our weakness. The opening of Psalm 46 has been a great encouragement to us recently: ‘God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble’ (Psalm 46).
