Jonny has been teaching at Servants of the Word (SOW), a small Bible school in The Gambia, since October 2015. In 2017 Jonny and Beth married and they are now serving together in The Gambia.
Beth is developing a network of youth and children's workers, and finding ways to resource and train them to teach young people God's word faithfully and engagingly. Jonny teaches courses on preaching and discipleship at SOW. They both teach God's word lots at their church too (Beth with the children, Jonny in preaching), where they hope to demonstrate servant-leadership and faithful stewarding of God's precious word.
There is often much admirable zeal and enthusiasm among Christians in The Gambia, but a serious lack of careful and faithful bible teaching. Jonny and Beth are working alongside local Christian leaders; learning from them and assisting them in the task of training servant-hearted gospel workers for the small but growing church.
Jonny introduces SOW, what happens there and why.
Recent SOW students share their highlights from being at SOW.
SOW Director, Pastor Steven, shares the vision of SOW.

“People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’” (Mark 10:13-14)
Amazing words from Jesus, spoken into a culture that often didn’t value children as precious. Here in The Gambia a staggering 46% of the population is under the age of 15 (it’s 19% in the UK). That means everywhere you look you see little children and, sadly, they are not always treated with the kindness that Jesus so clearly and beautifully displayed.
