January 2023

'If I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your right hard will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.' Psalm 139:9-10

Thank you so much for praying for us as we prepare to leave for Cape Town. It is so encouraging to know that our family, friends and church family are praying for us!

Background
Our team: Santi, George, Samuel, Jess, Emily and Alice, together with our leader Amelia will be working in the Muizenberg district for five months. This will involve serving at Southreach church (a growing new church plant) on Sundays, helping out with after-school care at iThemba primary school and assisting the administrative team at the George Whitefield theological College (GWC) where we will also have the opportunity to audit a module of our choice.

Praise God for all the ways in which our prayers have been answered so far in the planning of this trip!

Here are some specific things we want to thank God for:
•    The sorting of our visas. This has been an ongoing saga but the South African embassy has now granted Emily, Jess and Amelia the correct visas so we can now stay on for the full five months! Praise God for the speed with which this happened – meaning we can keep our original departure date as the 29 January.
•    Praise God for a really good team dynamic, for our bonding and training over our two team weekends and our orientation week in December.

Here are some specific prayer points:
•    Pray for us as we say goodbye to our families and anticipate a new season of living away from home. Pray that we would go out in full confidence that the Lord is sovereign over this trip, he will provide what we need daily and we can entrust all the logistics of our final preparations over to him.
•    Please also pray for a smooth and straightforward journey, for safety on our long flight and safety once we land.
•    Please pray that we will settle in quickly to a new routine (and new climate – bring on the sun!) and have the maturity to be flexible and open-minded in our expectations of daily life.
•    Pray that we would quickly adjust to living together in the student accommodation and for enthusiasm and excitement as we begin learning and handling the Bible through our chosen theological course.
•    Pray that we would be quick to develop close relationships at Southreach, GWC and iThemba. Pray for humility to help us listen well and love the people God puts in front of us.
•    Pray for Amelia to make wise decisions as she works out a schedule that means we can keep busy and get stuck in quickly, but also allows time to study the Bible together, rest and explore Cape Town. Pray that she would have full assurance, as the only leader, that she does not go out alone but with the Lord enabling her.

Thank you for joining with us in prayer. We can’t do this trip without your prayers and God’s help!

The 2023 Cape Town team
