How I became a Christian

Sarah Irungu

My name is Sarah Irungu. I was brought up in a Christian family and had always thought I was a Christian. For my gap year, I joined iServe Africa’s TransformD programme because I wanted to know God more and more.

However, when exploring of the books of Mark and Ephesians I realised that I was not actually a Christian. I was trying to live a ‘Christian life’ in my own strength. All my interests were directed by self. I had thought I was a Christian because I did not commit ‘big sins’ like murder or stealing. On the TransformD programme I realised that all along I was dead in my sins.

I then realised from Mark’s Gospel that Jesus actually came for sinners like me. Through his mercies, Jesus has saved me from the pain of hell. I came to realise how great his love is no matter how sinful I am. His mercies are new every morning. Jesus is the only way to heaven and only he is God over all.

I have now made a deliberate decision to follow Christ, no matter how tough it will be. I thank God that he saved me. I thank God for the TransformD Programme for sharing Jesus and transforming my life.

My life changed after I accepted Christ – let us all struggle hard to follow this God and be imitators of Jesus.

"...there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Luke 15:10
