Bethany is spending two years serving in Johannesburg, South Africa, helping with the youth and children’s work at Hope Church Auckland Park.
70% of the population of South Africa are under the age of 35, but there is a shortage of church workers who are trained to minister specifically to children, teenagers and young adults. Bethany is helping with the church’s Sunday school, toddlers’ group, after-school club and youth camp, as well as leading bible studies and going into local schools.
Bethany has served in overseas mission with Crosslinks three times before – in Uganda, South Africa and Kenya. On her previous trip to South Africa - in 2013 - Bethany served for 10 months at the Lily of the Valley Children’s Village. During this time, God grew in Bethany a real love for the people and the country of South Africa. Following this, Bethany trained as a Ministry Assistant at St Leonard’s Church in Exeter, where she helped with the children’s and youth work. Bethany loves seeing children and young people grow in their knowledge and love of the Lord Jesus and is looking forward to being able to use these skills and passions for the Lord in South Africa.

Dear friends and family,
Thank you for your continued love, prayers and communication over the last few months. Apologies it has been a while since I last wrote.
Last time I wrote, it was just before Christmas and I was yet to go on the regional youth camp (pictured above). It was a week-long camp for young people aged 13-18 and nearly 100 teenagers came along! I and a couple of other leaders spent the week with eight girls. We had daily devotions, listened to talks, played games and got to know one another. It was a wonderful week and there is much to give thanks for. A girl from my dorm had grown up in a Christian home but for many years her faith hadn’t felt like her own but her family’s. But something changed over the week; she was convicted of the truth of the gospel and now claims her faith in Jesus as her own. Another girl shared how one of the talks really impacted her; she was intrigued by the gospel and what Jesus had to say. She has begun thinking more seriously about the Christian faith and what it means for her.
