Andy and Rachel serve at Proclamation Institute Zambia (PIZ) – a bible school that teaches bible handling skills to Zambian men and women in their own culture and context.
Both Andy and Rachel have had a desire to serve God in an African context for many years. They spent five years in South Africa studying Theology at George Whitefield College and serving in a local church. They then returned to the UK where Andy pastored a small church for five years. In 2019 Andy and Rachel moved to Zambia to begin work at PIZ. Andy teaches several of the courses at PIZ and Rachel is involved with discipleship groups and looking after their two boys, Haydn and Daniel.

Ever since the WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic on 11 March 2020, life has taken a dramatic turn for a lot of people worldwide.
With the schools in Zambia closing on 20 March and the students at PIZ leaving to travel home, life for us on site started to look very different. We both remember standing in our bedroom praying that God would give us wisdom to deal with the months ahead and that he would grant us comfort as we decided to stay in Zambia for the foreseeable future. Some missionary friends, including the Hawthorne’s who are also at PIZ, had to make very quick decisions about staying or leaving for various reasons, as the government announced the imminent closure of all the airports except Lusaka’s airport.
