Adam is spending two years serving in Johannesburg, South Africa, training as a ministry apprentice at Hope Church Auckland Park.
Hope Church Auckland Park holds out the good news of the gospel to the diverse communities in the city. It is led by mission partners James and Lucy Buchanan and, though the church is growing fast, it is in great need of more workers.
In 2016, Adam spent six months serving at Hope Church Auckland Park. He writes, ‘It was a fantastic time to serve in so many areas of church life and experience the very diverse culture and gospel needs that are in Johannesburg.’
As a ministry apprentice at Hope Church, Adam’s primary focus is on youth work, but he is also involved in other areas of church life. Adam also attends Johannesburg Bible College for two mornings each week.
It’s great to be able to write to you again to update you since the last prayer letter. As always, your prayers for me are much appreciated and fill me with a great sense of encouragement as I persevere for the Gospel, with my work at Hope Church.
Let me write a broad overview of some of the key things which have happened since last writing. On the youth side of things, we have started a series on the book of Philippians as part of our Friday night sessions. This has been an encouragement to go through. We’ve been looking at the overarching theme of the book which seems to show how, in Christ, we are united as citizens of heaven. It’s been encouraging to be challenged together on what the implications are on our lives as we’ve been getting stuck into this epic book! On top of the usual programme which runs on a Friday night for our teens, we also attended a larger gathering of youth groups called Cutting Edge. Cutting Edge is an event which is usually held four times a year and it brings together youth groups from churches across the region of Gauteng. The most recent one was held at Christ Church Leondale, which is one of Hope Church’s closer partner churches. It was encouraging to gather with more youth groups and I’m encouraged that around 25 of our teens got the opportunity to gather together with so many other youth whilst hearing a bible talk, singing and playing some games. I guess in many ways it was like a typical youth evening on a Friday but on steroids!
