John Maganjo Waithira

John is studying at Africa International University (AIU) in Nairobi, Kenya.

John has been a parish priest in Isiolo, Marsabit Diocese for the past five years. He has received a Diploma in Theology but has had no further training for his role. Though in the UK most church vicars or pastors would have a minimum of a degree in Theology, up until now this level of training has not been an option for John.

Marsabit Diocese is the size of the whole of England and just 5% of the population are Christian. Gospel workers are few, with only 18 trained clergy, but their work has been slowly and consistently bearing fruit as more Kenyans come to know Christ.

John is studying a three-year Bachelor of Theology course at AIU. The modular course means he will attend four weeks of intensive teaching at AIU in Nairobi three times each academic year and will stay at home with his family in Isiolo for the majority of the year. He needs £1,700 per academic year until June 2021 to complete his studies.
