Ralf and Marie-Christine seek to multiply disciples for the glory of the Lord Jesus in formerly communist East Germany by serving at Christusgemeinde Markkleeberg near Leipzig.
Ralf and Marie-Christine are moving to Markkleeberg, a suburb of Leipzig in Eastern Germany, to serve at Christusgemeinde. Having been equipped through ministry training at the Proclamation Trust’s Cornhill Training Course and as part of the staff team at St Helen’s Bishopsgate in London, they aim to make disciples and support the growth of healthy churches in former communist East Germany. They will be joined by their three young children: Ansgar, Rosie, and Heidi.
The spiritual need in this region is vast, as the legacy of communism has left a deep mark on the landscape. The number of evangelical Christians in the East is as low as in much of formerly communist Eastern Europe, remaining significantly lower than in the West, probably below 1%. Working alongside Pastor Klaus Hickel and his wife, Judith, the couple hopes to encourage the local congregation and strengthen its outreach to the community.
Ultimately, their prayer is to foster a vibrant culture of discipleship that leads to further church planting across East Germany. By equipping Christians for gospel ministry, they hope to see many people in the Leipzig region come to faith in Jesus.
