Portia is based in Accra as the women’s worker for Relite Africa Ministries – a Ghanaian-led training scheme that was started in 2009 by Rev Yaw Boamah. Relite teaches university students at one of Ghana’s top universities to ‘correctly handle the word of truth’ (2 Timothy 2:15).
Around 74% of Ghanaians describe themselves as Christians, with a fairly large proportion of these attending church every Sunday. However, the majority are not clear about the gospel and the centrality of Jesus’ death on the cross. Most are nominal in their faith or focused on their own prosperity now in this world.
There is real spiritual hunger in Ghana and so there is a great need for the Bible to be taught clearly and for future leaders to be equipped with bible handling skills. Relite aims to provide this training to godly and able students who, God-willing, may go into full time bible teaching ministry in the future.
Portia’s role at Relite includes one-to-ones with female students, teaching bible handling skills and training students for evangelism. Portia also serves at her local church by teaching the Bible to women, youth and children and leading studies for bible study leaders.
