About Mary
Mary leads the Christian Union at St John’s Community Church. She is seeking ministry training to know how to handle Scripture with integrity and explain it clearly and faithfully. Mary became a Christian when she was 15 years old. She had the privilege of growing up in a Christian home and seeing her parents model reading the Bible, serving the Lord and praying to him from a young age. Since committing her life to Christ, Mary has had a strong desire to serve in ministry, with a particular focus on youth and young adults. She would love the opportunity to receive in-depth training so she can model to young people what it means to love, trust in and follow Jesus, just as her parents modelled this to her.
However, Mary’s family lack the finances to support her, and her home church is in a rural and poverty-stricken area. The church has a pastor, but no evangelist or young people’s worker – many churches in rural Kenya face this problem. Mary’s desire is to empower and train young people to take the gospel to churches like this once she has completed her training. She sees the need for building strong foundations in interpreting Scripture and teaching the gospel of grace, not prosperity, to the young adults in churches. Her heart is to walk alongside students, which is why she hopes to take up a post as chapel worker on GLUK’s campus, at the University Community Church.
