About Bright

Bright is married to Janet, and they have one child, Wankumbu Zoe. Bright came to know the Lord in November 2008, after his mother died. A close friend who had walked with Bright through this challenging time invited him to a Bible study. Bright agreed and went along, and the study was on John 3:16. Hearing how much God loved the world and the lengths he had gone to save it – even giving his only Son to die – struck Bright. He’d grown up going to church as that was his family’s culture but had never had a personal conviction of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour. Hearing the gospel troubled Bright because he wanted to believe it, but didn’t know how. He went to church that Sunday and stayed behind after to ask his pastor what it meant to be born again. His pastor explained, and there and then they prayed and Bright asked Jesus to be his Lord and Saviour.

Reflecting on his relationship with the Lord since, Bright writes, ‘My walk with Christ has been exciting and sometimes I have faced difficult times. But God has been gracious and through my work and service, I have worked alongside faithful brothers and sisters who modelled Christ to me and encouraged me to keep going.’ Bright has had some training in expository preaching at Proclamation Institute Zambia during his time working with Zambia Fellowship of Evangelical Students, but is keen to consolidate his training, so he can better serve the church as a faithful pastor teacher.

The United Church of Zambia University, Kitwe

The United Church of Zambia is the largest Protestant Church in Zambia, covering all of Zambia’s 10 provinces. The United Church of Zambia is committed to spreading the good news of salvation to the Zambian people, and their mission is to strengthen congregations and plant new churches to reach the lost. Established in 1949 to train clergy, the university is now based in Kitwe with four schools. Studying this course will grow Bright in his understanding of God, ministry and interpreting the word. This will stand Bright in good stead for future pastoral ministry; after completing his course, Bright will serve as a pastor of a local congregation, leading and growing his flock.
