The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
The sun is shining and summer holidays are just around the corner. It’s Christmas in Australia! Very soon, tens of thousands of Aussies will pack their tents and head to the beach. Camping is a very Christmassy activity down under.
When the Word became flesh he dwelt among us – literally he pitched his tent, or tabernacled, among us. The Lord Jesus is fully and truly human. He lived among us so that we might see God’s glory.
His physical presence on earth points us back to the tabernacle and the tent of meeting in the Old Testament. Before the Word became flesh, God’s people had to go to a place to meet with God. But now the Lord Jesus has tabernacled among us. So we do not go to a place, but to a person. We go to the Lord Jesus to know God, to see his glory, to experience his grace and love.
Many Christians in Australia will also be pitching their tents at the beach this summer – taking part in a huge programme of Scripture Union beach missions. Join us in praying that many will hear the gospel and come to know the Lord Jesus for the first time.
