Rebecca Coombs

Rebecca is on her gap year between school and university. She and a friend have travelled to South Africa to spend several months working at a children’s home called Lily of the Valley Children’s Village.

Lily was established in 1994 and seeks to serve, care for and support children abandoned or orphaned due to parental AIDS suffering. Lily of the Valley Children’s Village provides a home and education to children. Lily holds unswervingly to the message of Jesus Christ, and applies their knowledge of the gospel to the care of children. They aim to care for children through loving care, improved nutrition, strategic health intervention and focused spiritual guidance.

Rebecca will be working with the children, caring for them, helping teach in the Lily school, providing help with homework, and generally having fun and games with the children. She aims to show the children the love of Christ, and to witness to them of his love for them. She will also be participating in the staff spiritual programme of Bible studies etc. Rebecca will be involved at Hillcrest Baptist Church, which is a great church local to Lily.  

Please pray for Rebecca that she will be able to form good relationships with the children, and will know best how to serve and care for them; pray for the Lord to open up good conversations with the children about Jesus and his love for them; for Rebecca and her friend to be a good support to one another, and an encouragement to the long term workers at Lily; and for them to be able to be fully involved in church life at Hillcrest. Pray too for safety, good health, and a dependence of God in all things.
