Placements for Individuals and Couples

Short-term Mission, Long-term Vision

Why consider a short-term mission placement?

Going on short-term mission is a brilliant way to serve God with the time and gifts that God has given you. You have the wonderful opportunity of serving alongside Crosslinks Mission Partners and projects overseas by taking God’s word to God’s world, grow spiritually yourself, explore cross-cultural mission, and get a taste for living and working in another country.

What does a short-term volunteer do?

Every placement is different because each volunteer brings with them a unique set of skills and experiences, but some examples have been youth and children work, student work, prison ministry, English teaching, ministry amongst international students and returnees, teaching at Bible colleges, childcare and homeschooling for missionary families.

Why go through Crosslinks?

Crosslinks prizes faithful Bible teaching so you will be placed with experienced Bible-believing hosts. Crosslinks values volunteers and their contributions highly, so you go well prepared and receive support before, during and after your placement. Crosslinks also value partnership highly so we facilitate partnerships between you and churches and individuals who will pray for you and, if your placement is a year or longer, give towards your placement.

Where are the placements and how long do they last?

The location varies, depending on where Crosslinks Mission Partners and contacts are currently based, but in the last few years short-term volunteers have served in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America. The duration depends on the need and how much time you can give – it can be anywhere between one month and two years.

How much does it cost?

All short-term placements are different and cost different amounts depending on the location, duration, travel and accommodation arrangements, and other living costs. Crosslinks will help you draft a budget and the trip is self-funded. In order to meet their budget some people have saved up money. Others ask their church, family and friends to give financially. Crosslinks can also help you find churches and individuals to partner with you.

What skills and experience do I need to become a short term mission volunteer?

A belief in the gospel and a willingness to serve! We welcome enquiries from people who wish to use their ministry and/ or professional skills to serve God overseas. Please get in touch to discuss your past experiences and see where you can be best placed. You also need to be aged 18 or over and a resident of Britain or Ireland.

What’s the process with Crosslinks?

Please get in touch with Claudia (cchan@crosslinks) about any specific short-term mission opportunities that you’ve seen advertised, or indeed about the possibility of a personalised tailor-made placement just for you. We would ask you to fill in an initial enquiry form, and based on your preferences, availability, skills and experiences, we try to find a potentially suitable overseas placement for you. This is followed by application, references and interview. An offer would be conditional upon DBS and medical clearances - these can take up to 4-6 weeks so it takes a minimum of 3-4 months from the point of enquiry to departure.

Do I get any training before I go overseas?

At your orientation we’ll cover what the Bible says about mission and cross-cultural adaptation and communication. We’ll introduce you to your destination, advise you on travel health and security, and physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing whilst overseas.
