What is Victor Owuor doing?
Victor Owour is a Kenyan married to Mary with whom he has two children, Jesse, aged 7, and Joy, 3. He is a licensed AIC (African Inland Church) minister, and has recently completed his MA at George Whitefield College, before commencing a PhD through Stellenbosch University. His area of focus is Systematic Theology, and his Masters explored the biblical doctrine of the resurrection within the context of traditional attitudes to death amongst his native Luo tribe.
Beginning in 2007 Victor is lecturing a course on the New Testament at GWC.
Alongside his studies Victor performs an important role at the college. He helps first year students with “key study skills” in the areas of assignment writing, editing and research. He also spends time providing personal tuition and counselling.
God willing, after his time in South Africa Victor will be involved in theological education, as well as local church ministry, back home in Kenya.
Objectives
By the end of two years, it is hoped that the Lord will have enabled the following to be achieved through this initiative:
To provide regular mentoring and tutoring for future Christian ministers whilst they study at college
To give much needed African representation on Faculty and thus appropriate contextualisation in theological education
To enhance Victor’s tutoring gifts, extend his academic proficiency, further his opportunities to teach and thus, ultimately, help strengthen the African church
Costs involved
Supporting a local person is very cost efficient compared to the costs of training and supporting someone to study in the UK. Crosslinks has agreed funding of £4000pa for 2007 and 2008. This covers around half of Victor’s expenditure each year.
