There is an urgent need to counter the widespread mishandling of the Bible prevalent in Sierra Leonean Churches.
Truth Mission exists to:
- Engage with ministries and individuals to influence them to preach and teach the Bible correctly.
- Model and encourage expository preaching and teaching ministry
- Support the local church with training
- Work with like minded Christians to enhance the course of the gospel through Church planting.
- Encourage and uphold sound Biblical doctrine
There is no other ministry like this in Sierra Leone. Truth Mission longs to equip pastors and Bible teachers to handle the scriptures rightly so that God’s Word can be truly heard.
Truth Mission is directed by Christopher Jonah (pictured above, and top, with the rest of the staff). Christopher has run Truth Mission for five years, since he completed the Cornhill Training Course. He has also managed Langham Preaching in Sierra Leone.
The Project
In Sierra Leone the Bible is mishandled, and God’s voice is stifled. People are misled and their assurance is fragile and under attack. Health and prosperity preaching leaves people bewildered when hardship comes. Truth Mission seeks to address this problem in various ways, all of which are aimed at equipping pastors and Bible teachers to teach the Bible more faithfully. These include:
- The Grace and Truth Bible Institute (est. 2002). This provides pastors with one and a half day’s Bible training each week. Friday evening and Saturday are given over to classes so that those already pastoring congregations can be better equipped.
- Word Alive. A monthly preaching and teaching programme with an average attendance of 25 students.
- Travelling Bible School. This enables the training to travel to the villages, to bring expository teaching into rural areas.
- Weekly 30 minute radio broadcast. Designed to model expository teaching through sections of the Bible, as well as to teach directly.
- Moore College correspondence course. This means that pastors unable to come to the Institute in Freetown are able to learn.
- A church. Truth Mission planted a church in Freetown in 2007. They saw the need for a church practicing what they seek to teach others how to do.
