Enoch is passionate about teaching people how to rightly read and teach God’s Word. He worked as a hospital chaplain with the Evangelical Church of West Africa since the year 2000 and has been a Christian for 25 years.
Enoch has been convinced of the pressing need for faithful Bible teaching in Nigeria. He was able to spend 2009/10 studying at The Cornhill Training Course in London and now feels able to launch a similar ministry in Jos, Nigeria.
Enoch writes, "Sound preaching and teaching of the Bible is vital for healthy Christians and church life and growth. Unfortunately the majority of those doing this in Nigeria are not well trained. This has resulted in poor spiritual growth of members and the church. This work is necessary because it will equip the pastors to preach and teach the true meaning and message of the Bible. I believe it is the key to solving the problem of spiritual immaturity and lack of spiritual growth among believers and churches in Nigeria."
Enoch is married to Ruth and has three children: Gyutnom, Mendwas and Tirnom.
The church in Nigeria is very large, but the spiritual life of many Christians in Nigeria is shallow. The main cause of this is poor spiritual nourishment due to the fact that the majority of those preaching and teaching the Bible lack the necessary training to do so effectively.
Nigeria faces the twin challenges of Islam on one hand, and prosperity teaching on the other. There is also an alarming trend in rural churches towards blending elements of Christianity with African Traditional Religions. Topical Bible teaching is currently very popular, but is a very meagre spiritual diet for Christians and often inadequate or un-biblical.
Sound Bible teaching is desperately needed throughout the country.
From his base in Jos, Enoch will be organising training conferences throughout northern Nigeria on expository preaching for pastors and Bible teachers in both English and Hausa (a Nigerian language). He will also be involved in teaching expository preaching in some theological schools in Jos as well as preaching in churches and at conferences.
Enoch began this work in 2006 through helping with ‘Training Pastors International’, organising conferences in central and northern Nigeria. This pioneering work has been very warmly received and the results have been encouraging. There is great demand and hunger for more similar training for pastors, which is why Enoch seeks to continue full time.
Enoch’s hope is that through training church leaders how to teach God’s Word faithfully, whole churches will be transformed.
