Prayer Update August 2008
Mixing with the bintis
I‘m back in Kilifi after 2 weeks meeting up with old friends in Tanzania. I was well looked after by my friend, Ute who is in charge of Berega Orphanage for motherless children. It was good to see her work with the orphanage “Mamas” ( the nursery nurses) and the “bintis” the teenage girl relatives who come and stay before the children are reintegrated at the age of 2 with their extended families. I did a talk for them on nutrition including a cookery demonstration of ready-to-use-therapeutic food, the latest thing in malnutrition treatment –see picture. It was a bit crumblier than it should have been but the kids loved it, not that they needed it as they mostly seemed to be thriving, including quadruplets who all survived and are now 2 years old.
Dr Moses in the new children's ward
My second week was in Mvumi and despite being on holiday I just had to visit the hospital, which has changed both structurally and in leadership since I left. After a difficult time finance wise it seems that the government will be providing more support when Mvumi becomes the district-designated hospital later this year. The church programmes to treat people with HIV/AIDS infection and support AIDS orphans are going well and the church nursery schools are also still active.
