Prayer Update July 2008
Not only raining and training but holidays too!
At the risk of being repetitive the exercise to train all the outpatient nurses and supervise their practical skills in measuring children and giving nutrition advice continues as does the fresh rainy weather. The exciting news is that I’ve got a couple of weeks’ leave starting on the 6th and am visiting my friend Ute in Berega, the place where I first worked in Tanzania ( 1989-1992) then visiting Mvumi where I worked until 2005. Friends Robin and Elizabeth Smith whom I worked with in Mvumi and who live in Tasmania are also visiting with 2 of their children so I’m looking forward to relaxing and socializing.
There have been several break-ins in June in Kilifi by an armed gang and a couple of my consultants’ workers were shot, not fatally. Another well known local figure, an Italian restaurateur, died of apparent drowning. One of my colleagues had to go on anti-HIV medication to prevent infection after an HIV positive child bled on her and bit her. Please pray for those traumatized by these events.
I am enjoying having a family who used to work here stay with me and am expecting another friend Fran in August. My garden is looking very lush and I have a vegetable plot, thanks to Chris the nurse who stays in my annexe (aka servants’ quarters) and couldn’t bear to see land not being farmed.
My plans to do a research degree advanced when I discovered that the anthropologist who did work on cultural beliefs about malnutrition in this area in the 1960s is now at Oxford and I’ve started an email correspondence with him about future work.
I thank God for:
Please pray for:
