Prayer Update October 2008
Dear Friends,
Thank you for all your prayers for the work here.
Special points to praise God for are:
- An uncomplicated 6 weeks leading while Jon and Kristi were in the USA
- Great times with the young short term folk from Ireland and the USA over the summer
- A special Holiday Bible club led by the Ballinderry team with a number of young people and staff coming to faith
Current prayer requests and needs are:
- Rufael and I are currently training staff from Operation Rescue in how to care for children living with HIV. The project recently opened a home for children living with this awful disease. Pray that these women will teach others how to live safely in the context of HIV and provide excellent care for the children.
- The two youth centre Bible Clubs for 7-12 year olds - one for girls and one for boys are going well. Do pray for us as we teach the children, sing and have fun with them, and they learn their memory verses. We are currently studying the life of Noah.
- The two youth centre older Girls' Bible study groups are encouraging and blessing me. Please continue to ask God to open the girls' minds to His Word and to reveal His truth to their hearts.
- Our living positively group at the prison has grown to 40, but only 23 or so attend regularly. We are now studying specific Psalms. Also, each week Rufael is teaching something from his psychology course which he took this summer. Please pray for this special group that they would come to trust God, experiencing His love and forgiveness.
- In October Jon and I will begin teaching Peer Education and Ethical training for leadership (Bible) in Romenat rural village school. Pray that God will guide us in our teaching each Tuesday and Thursday morning.
- On October 10th a team from my home church at Knocknagoney will arrive to lead a Bible club at Operation Rescue Orphan Project and run sports programmes at the Youth Centre. Do pray for their final preparations, a safe journey (they fly home on the 29th) and that they'll have a fruitful time with the children here.
- Continued unrest in the north, east and now west of the country and in the capital Addis Ababa is a concern. Please continue to pray for peace.
- You may have watched reports of rains failing in southern Tigrai, Eastern and South Western Ethiopia. Animals have died in the drought and there will be millions requiring food aid. Do pray for wise distribution efforts by the government and other agencies.
This comes with much love,
Karen
