May 2008 Prayer Update
Hello and hope you are doing well. We have had a good month mostly, with many challenges as usual but God has been keeping us healthy and focused on Him, for which we are thankful.
Thanks as ever for praying for us
Gill and Carlos
Thanks for:
The Staff Appraisals went very well, and was a really useful time of encouraging people in their work and helping them in their development. We are grateful to God for a great staff team of over 50 (paid and volunteers) and so please continue to pray for us to be united as a team and to do the best we can to serve together in our ministries.
Last month we asked for prayer for the Skills Training Project girls who went on placement. We are happy to report that all are doing well so far and we have successfully recruited a new group of girls for the classroom training, so we thank God for that.
We received positive news this month when we were informed by a long term donor partner that they were willing to fund a new Net2Work eAcademy in the North of Uganda, this time in Pader. With the success of the Gulu eAcademy transforming lives of those affected by the war in the North, we are excited to be able to train more students in valuable computer, life and job skills.
Prayer for:
A good friend, Carol, who was the matron at our wedding, and whose son is Gill’s Godchild, had tragic news this month when her young brother (who had just turned 26 years old) was killed in a car accident. It was a complete shock as the family had lost their parents over 13 years ago and so the siblings had been very close. Please pray for Carol, Moses and Timothy and their families as they grieve their brother.
Please pray for Gill and the leadership in Oasis Uganda as they seek to make plans for the next year and also look to reshape the organisation. There are lots of exciting ideas and possibilities of new work to begin, so it is essential that God helps us as we manage these new opportunities. There are so many needs in Uganda - even in the communities where we already work we are barely touching the surface of the spiritual and physical poverty - so we need to know where we can focus our limited resources.
The Passion Tour is coming to Uganda, when worship leaders from UK (including Chris Tomlin and Matt Redman apparently) will come to run a 2 day worship conference at universities in Kampala. The aim is to excite and inspire college students to follow God passionately. Calvary Chapel, our church, is one of the leading organisers and over 200 volunteers from the church are needed (Carlos is one of them, and Gill hopes to find time to also be there). Please pray that all goes well and people respond to the message to live their lives fully for the Lord.
Please pray for a team of volunteers coming from UK for 1 week to run HIV and AIDS training seminars in Mbale. Pray that the team have a meaningful experience in Uganda and that their message impacts the community.
