Febuary 2008 Prayer Update
Hello again
Hope you are doing well and healthy. We are well, though we’ve had a few challenges in work with electricity, water and internet all going on off at regular intervals which makes things interesting! Things seem to have stabilised now and we are seeing God’s blessings in many ways.
Thanks for praying,
Gill and Carlos
Thanks for:
6 girls were ‘candidates’ at the end of 2007, 5 sitting PLE (Primary Leaving Examination, which determines whether you will be accepted into Secondary school) and 1 sitting O Levels. We were delighted that 3 girls passed in ‘first grade’, 2 in ‘second grade’ and 1 in ‘third grade’. The girl who sat O Levels used to be a street girl and has had a very traumatic past, and has always spoken of her desires to be a lawyer so she can help other people in future. Now with her first grade entitling her to her first choices in A Levels, we are praying that her dreams will come true in future.
We held a community day on 29th January to share on the theme of anti-trafficking (see www.stopthetraffik.org for more information about this campaign). Over 100 people including carers, teachers, local counsellors and church leaders came and participated in discussions about how to protect children from exploitation as child labourers. The girls performed a drama and a dance and really helped to bring the message home. We are thankful that it was such a successful day.
In January, both the Bambejja Skills Training Project and Net2Work received new intakes of students for the training in vocational skills and IT respectively. We are thankful that their first month has gone well and all the trainees have settled into their courses. Beersheba Project in Mbale is currently recruiting and we pray that staff will have wisdom in the enrolment process.
Prayer for:
Carlos’ mum is in hospital awaiting an operation for an enlarged goitre. She has now waiting in hospital for nearly a month, as there has been problems with her blood pressure being too high to operate, plus the theatre has been heavily booked. Please pray that she has the operation soon and that all will go well.
We have heard tragic news recently that one young girl aged 9 who was raped by her uncle in 2006 is now HIV+. We don’t know if she was HIV+ before this event, but it seems likely that she was infected through that abuse. She is a weak, sickly girl and needs a lot of medical care, and also of course emotional support as she comes to terms with her traumatic past. Please pray for her physical and spiritual well-being, and for safety and protection in her home.
The situation in Kenya is still bad, and many people have lost lives. Please pray that peace will prevail soon.
