September 2008 Prayer Update
We have good news about our work permits in that they have been approved - we have just sent our passports up to Nairobi by Securicor for what we hope is the final stage.
Weather, water & washing!
We seem to have returned to the rainy season here - sunny days, which spark off torrential thunderstorms on the dot of 4.30pm. Though we are not complaining, as the town water supply is off at the moment - the water company have not paid their electricity bill, so they've been cut off and can't pump water into the water tower! We put out buckets and bowls for an hour or so and collected 50-60 litres of water, enough to flush the loo several times and wash the socks!
Wedding, waiting & wondering
We were recently invited to the wedding of a local curate. The invitation said 10.00am so taking advice we did not arrive until just after 10.30am. The service was to be followed by the reception at the church so the meal was being cooked while we waited for the bride and groom and family to come in cavalcade. We arrived at the same time as the chickens and probably could have joined in plucking them - at least they were fresh! At just after 2.00pm it was decided that we might as well eat the chicken stew (with rice, cabbage and chapattis) rather than all faint with hunger while waiting for the happy couple to arrive. After 'lunch' some of the guests decided to go home. We persevered until 4.30pm and saw the bride and groom arrive and go into Church! They were finally married by 6.00pm, by which time we had safely navigated some slippery roads and had our feet up with a nice cup of coffee!
We are back in the UK for 2 weeks from 28th September - staying in Wimbledon for various meetings (Open Bible Institute & AICMAR (UK) Trustees meeting) but also having a week's holiday at our friends' cottage near Chichester. We return to Kenya on the 13th Oct.

- a good Langham Preaching Conference at Limuru. A wide range of people attended some of whom are serious about preparing sermons faithfully.
- an informal but very helpful meeting with one of the AICMAR trustees who was visiting Butere.

- the follow up from the Langham conference - bi-monthly regional preaching clubs (Doug has to prepare some material on 1 Kings)
- September 22nd-26th - Carlile College, Nairobi Preaching Week. "Preaching the Cross"
- a meeting to be arranged with the AICMAR Kenyan Trustees before the end of September.
