Prayer Letter May 2008
Dear Friends,
"unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies it remains alone; but if it dies it bears much fruit" - John 12:24
Looking with thanks:
We have just finished a post Easter series in John 11 & 12 and been rejoicing again in the resurrection life that Jesus secures by his death. Do pray that like Mary our response to Jesus’ giving of himself would be an extravagant and costly love for Jesus.
Further back give thanks for a useful trip to Port Elizabeth in February. It was a privilege to be able to get to know our mission partners Jamie and Helen Read better, to teach John’s gospel in a different context and to be more aware of the work of the Bible Institute of the Eastern Cape as they seek to train mainly black pastors.
Give thanks for three guest events in March and the desire of some to investigate the claims of Jesus further.
Things to pray for:
Our women’s worker has decided to return to Sydney in October, after one year with us. We would have loved her to stay, but we’re glad to have had her- she has done more in six months than many would do in a year and has clearly proved the value of a women’s worker. Pray for a replacement, with the post being advertised in June.
Nat Charles has now been offered a place on the Cornhill Ministry Scheme so we look forward to having him half time for two years from September.
I am just about to start a CE course with three people - pray they’d grasp grace and be born again.
Pray for the growing number of people who have heard the gospel but have not yet professed.
On Sundays we are about to start a sermon series looking at our union with Christ, and then Ecclesiastes. Please pray for God’s word to do it’s work of teaching, rebuking, correcting and training. Pray too for the planning of the teaching programme for the next year- both on Sundays and small groups.
