Prayer Update February 2008

Greetings and a belated Happy New Year!!

The trip to Aus went really well and it was great to catch up with Mum and Dad, my brother and family and some friends too. Mum and Dad are doing fine.

It’s lovely though to be back in Dodoma.

Prayer requests

Monday and Tuesday we are doing Degree Entrance tests for Aug 2008. Please pray for the right people to come and for wise choices.
On Wednesday 6th Feb. the Pre Diploma Access course should arrive. We only have 6 definites so far, but often get some we don’t expect. We will train these folk for the next 5 months to prepare them for Diploma studies in August. Pray for a good group of God’s choosing.

Sue Watterson and Helen Entwistle from UK are flying out on Tuesday 11 and joining the team for a while. Pray for their travels and that we all gel as a team quickly and can adequately meet the varying needs of the different groups of students.

Mum and Dad were fine but getting noticeably slower – not surprising at 81 and 83! They have not yet sold their house, though several folk have been to view this week. They have seen a unit which is ideal, and this will go on the market in about three weeks time – the estate agent is holding it for them until then. Please pray that if the unit is the right one, they will get a buyer for theirs in the next three weeks!!

We are so sad about the news coming out of Kenya where post election violence continues, tribal clashes are common, over 1m people have been displaced, and many have fled to surrounding countries, and 900 to 1000 people have died. MAF Kenya are constantly on alert and have done a lot of evacuating. Our staff in Kenya are under a lot of stress. Pray for talks between Odinga and Kibaki and for peace to be restored. Its so sad to see our neighbours come close to civil war.

In Chad the rebels are now in the capital trying to oust the president. MAF staff all evacuated to Cameroun on Friday. Pray for this troubled country too, for peace and for God’s will to be done.

Good news! – Tim sat and passed his compass exam while I was away.

Dodoma rains are pretty abysmal so far. The government has told people not to plant maize. The question is ‘what are people going to eat this year then?’ Its grey, overcast but very little rain. Please pray February brings some rain.

Sorry for the long list. Africa is a sad place right now. Praise God for peaceful Tanzania!! As you can see, work is about to get busy again at Msalato.

Thanks for your prayers. We really need and appreciate them.

Blessings

Carol and Tim
