August 2008 Prayer Letter

Dear friends and family, greetings to you from Walsall in the precious name of our Lord. We trust that you are fine, and that all is well with you. It's been  8 months since you heard from us! A lot has been happening with us, we wanted to know  what the Lord has next for us, before we share with you; We have spent the last few months praying , seeking God's face and trying to figure out what God's will is. We will share more, please keep reading.

Family News

Our baby Dunsin turned one on the 24th of June, we can't believe  how quickly the time has gone! She's a really cheerful little girl who loves playing with her brothers. She's not walking yet but she crawls around really quickly pulling down whatever she can reach and ripping any paper within her reach, she keeps us very busy! Dara and Demi are also doing very well,  they really enjoy being big  brothers, and showing her off to their friends at school whenever she comes along to pick them up. Dara who is 5 and now going to school full time is  beginning to read,  he tries to read any word he sees, he also really loves playing on the computer. We just got his school report card and he is doing so well, we are so proud of him. We are really proud of Demi (4) too, we got his report back too and he is also doing well, he  really loves nursery and also loves playing on the  computer he also loves to count . They are both very active  boys, always running around and trying to climb everything!  Even though they keep us busy, we are so grateful for them and all the energy they’ve got.

Our families back at home are doing very well as well, Kola’s dad turned  90 in May, it was a bit sad that we couldn’t go home to be part of the celebration because the whole family was together, but we got to talk to him and everyone during the party so that was good.

The work so far

We are so grateful for all God has done this past few years. We were going over  how the work has gone so far, one thing we discovered was that the first three years kola mostly did discipleship, teaching and encouraging in the CYFA and pathfinders. These past year however, most of the young people kola started with are now young adult who have new social network and therefore find other social outlets.

With this in mind, he is  starting to raise awareness for the next set of young people coming up in age to join CYFA.

Pathfinders: Two of the members of the group gave their lives to Christ  during a session of our regular meeting. It was a great joy to see them make commitment to Jesus and see them grow in Christ. The next step is discipleship.

Friday Youth socials: There has been an increase in the number of those coming in for the Friday social, the challenge however is that 99% of the young people coming are unchurched, which provides us with a great outreach opportunity.

Blue coat: The Christian Union is growing and there has been phenomenal increase and maturity noticed in their Christian faith. In September we are starting Youth Alpha in the school for year 10,11 and Six formers. We are also starting a new  programme  “THE  CRUX’’ created by Youth for Christ for year 7,8 and 9.

Drop in Centre: The drop in centre has been going on very well; we have approximately about 50 kids attending every week.  Some of the older kids have started helping out at the centre which is encouraging.  Kola has been able share the gospel with many of the kids individually, many of them have started to ask a lot of questions and Kola keeps sharing.  God is good!.

Dignity Dance group: We’ve been praying and feel we should  re-invent  the dance group, we hope to start a youth Gospel choir in conjunction with the dance  group in September. We already have interests which is great!

Residential/Soul Survivor:  In April, Kola and some of the other youth leaders and CU workers took the young people from the Church and Bluecoat school on a weekend away. Having the weekend away  has been  really important, because, they  are away from everything , it has  given them  the opportunity to hear from God and be refreshed without distractions.  This year 30 of them went, (24 young people) The theme this year was knowing God. They had a great time in God’s presence.

Kola, the other youth workers and the young people have been preparing  for Soul Survivor, in August. They are all looking forward to going. The plan is to have 100 people go from here this year! So far,70 are booked to go.

Later this month Kola is taking the young people from the drop in centre on a 5  day narrow boat trip, they went  last year and had a great time,  they even got to be on TV! They were on ITV 1 “Water World’’ in February.

So... What’s next??…

As most of  you  know Kola’s contract with St Matthews ends in August . Well, as soon as we found out, we started praying to find  out what God has in store for us next. We were totally open to what next, we kept praying. We prepared the children’s minds and told them they will be going to new schools. The young people at the centre were devastated when Kola said he was leaving. Of course this meant that all the work at the centre would stop, because there was no one to take over the work.

The one thing we were sure of was  that God still wanted us in the UK, but we were not sure where. The first impression we got was that our work had not ended in Walsall, and the church was happy for Kola to continue the work at the centre. After a while we were not so sure again. We kept praying and applying for other jobs but nothing seemed to work out. After much praying, seeking God’s face, and confirmation from others, we  felt sure that God still wants us here in Walsall, so we are staying!
What will we be doing? .
